Matt. 22:1-14 – This parable is an obvious warning to the wayward and disobedient children of Israel . . . but what is our takeaway as modern disciples? First, our King is still inviting souls to His Son’s wedding feast today, and His table is ready. We, as disciples, are the bondslaves who should be bringing the invitation. Second, we must realize that this work will not always produce the intended results. In fact, we may face serious persecution from carrying the King’s message to a lost world. Our work, however, is not results; it is inviting. The question we need to ask ourselves is, “Am I going to ‘the main highways’ calling the ‘good and evil’ to His Majesty’s feast? We serve a great King!
Matt. 22:15-46 – Matthew now records for us a series of questions posed by Jesus’ enemies designed to trap Him into answering in such a way that the local authorities (the Herodians) could apprehend and punish Him. In every way, however, Jesus answers perfectly . . . Why don’t I understand that Jesus has all the answers to the complexities of my life? Why do I sometimes continue to question his plan for me? I’m not looking to trap Jesus, but, sadly, I sometimes still want to question His rule over me. I need to BE STILL. I need to TRUST and FOLLOW HIM. His answers are always perfect; they are always what are best for me. Verse 46 teaches me to stop the questioning and TRUST!
