Leadership

The Canyon Church is truly non-denominational. We have no superstructure and no conference or set of policies and procedures to which we are accountable. We answer only to Jesus, the “Chief Shepherd” of our souls. Our church is structured in the same, simple way the Philippian church in Phil 1:1-2 indicates – members (“saints”), elders/pastors (“overseers”), and appointed servants (“deacons”).

Currently, the Canyon Church has three elders – Dan Buttrey, Tom Degeneffe, and Mark Kercheville.

Mark Kercheville

Mark has been a member of the Canyon Church from its inception in October of 1990. He has been married since July 1978 to his wife, Alicia, and has three grown children, Timothy, Erin, and Renée. Mark completed his career as a public school elementary teacher of 40 years in 2013, and has a passion for teaching and preaching.

Tommy Degeneffe

Tommy and his wife, Colleen, have been married since 1976. They have three adult sons who are each married and 6 grandchildren so far. Tommy and Colleen became followers of Jesus Christ in 1980 and joined with the Canyon church family around 2005. Tommy has served as an elder here since January 2014. They love to teach the Bible, both in our classes here at Canyon and also in small group studies, helping people get more excited about God’s amazing story. They have also been privileged to do some pre-marital counseling through the years, which they thoroughly enjoy. They are both retired, Tommy from construction and Colleen from the school district, and they are excited to see what God wants to do with them in this phase of their life!

Dan Buttrey

Daniel has been a member of the Canyon Church since 2004. He joined the eldership in 2008. He has been married for 35 years to his wife, Glenna, who is a high school English teacher. They have three adult daughters, Danielle, Brooke, and Shea. He is employed as a General Manager of an elevator service, repair, and installation company. He has worked in the elevator industry for 40 years. Currently, Daniel enjoys assisting in teaching the adult Bible studies and occasionally filling in to preach for the Sunday morning service.
